2 Classes

So congratulations to me! I got to add both of the classes that I wanted. I am now taking both Intro to Digital Imaging (photoshop) and Intermediate Photography and my classes are each 1 night per week and they are both 4 hrs long! I really like them both and I am excited about the projects and the things I will learn taking these classes.
We are using this super expensive program Adobe Photoshop CS4 and I have CS3 at home but CS4 is the newest and best version as of now.. until they come out with another new one that will probably cost even more! We did our first assignment the other day and I totally got it and It made me feel really good that I could figure it out without having to ask too many questions and I enjoyed playing with the program and using the different effects. I was able to turn in the assignment early as well. So that class is going pretty well I think I have a feeling that by the end of the class I may end up wanting to get a mac and adobe photoshop cs4 very badly

In my other class we also have been told what our assignments are and I started working on it. It is to make one photo with 25 separate film frames without splicing only cutting it so it will lay as 5x5 film frames and make a photo. So earlier this week I went out with my camera and film to take some photos for this assignment and found a decent scene near my work and went out and shot a roll of film on my lunch break. I wanted to have something to work on in the lab for class this week. So I brought the film to class and went into the lab an it was set up very differently than the lab I had used before. I saw a few things that were similar to what I had used and it had been over 2 years since I have developed film so I probably should have asked more questions before just starting to develop(or attempting to anyways). So I was using a completely different film reel and the developing jug and everything than everyone else there so when I was asking for help people were giving me the wrong measurements etc. and I ended up pulling the whole lid off the thing because the ones they use are different and don't expose the film when the lid comes off... so my film got completely ruined and I got really frustrated and discouraged. For a while there I was so discouraged that I considered just leaving and dropping the class. I read through all of the instructions a ton of times and I probably looked like an idiot cause I had to practice rolling the film onto the plastic reels and went through all the steps to practice so that I wouldn't mess up next time. So now I have to go out again and re-shoot that whole assignment and then go back to the lab and develop my film and hope that I don't screw it up again. I feel pretty confident about it now though.
It had been more than 2 years since my intro to photography class and a little trial and error never hurt anyone. My teacher actually told the class a funny story about how he went out to do a shoot of some stairs that were in a museum or something and he went out and did the whole shoot and then got back to the lab and discovered that he hadn't put any film in the camera, so he had to call the place and tell them that he needed to come back to re-do the shoot. After doing the second shoot he went back to the lab to develop and again found that he had forgotten to put film in the camera, the third time he remembered to put film in and each time he did the shoot took different photos than the one before and some the same as before. Hopefully I won't mess up my developing a second time. I just need to make sure I have all the steps down and everything ready and practiced before I start. After class I was feeling a bit better because my teacher helped me and another girl out by showing us the steps. I was still flustered and upset and Alex was very sweet and took me out to ice cream so I could calm down and feel better after my class. He even got me cracking up laughing.
I wrote down and went over all of the steps this morning so that when I go back to that lab I will show it who is boss!!

Love,

Sherrie
